Hardscaping your property doesn’t always require mountains of concrete and heavy equipment to accomplish. Sometimes, softer hardscaping can do the trick just as nicely. In fact, if you’re looking for a simpler, more budget friendly option, “soft” hardscaping may be just the thing you’re looking for.

Bulk materials such as gravel, mulch, or decomposed granite can provide wide area coverage with minimal preparation required. It can be compacted to create pathways, spread about to provide ground cover within flower beds, and placed along hills to control runoff and soil erosion.

Another very popular way to soften hardscaping is to incorporate moss or grass into stone pathways. Between each stone, the moss or grass will grow providing a colorful accent to the hard and grey texture of the rock. This creates a pleasing visual effect that helps tie the harder elements within your landscape to the natural surroundings. Not only does it look attractive, it’s a highly functional option that requires very little maintenance.

We invite you to contact Triad Associates, Inc. for more information about the ways we can help soften your hardscaping. We’ll be happy to provide more examples from projects we’ve recently completed in the area.
