Pool Coping Defined

Pool Coping Defined

Every pool makes use of pool coping. Pool coping serves two functions: it offers a layer of protection to the pool as well as adding an aesthetic quality. Coping is the material that is used to finish the top edge part of the pool. It is separate of the structure of the pool as well as the decking and is used as a frame around the entire pool. Because of this, it is a large part of what gives the pool its own distinct personality. There are a number of styles that can be chosen to help give a pool its own look. The following are a few different types of pool coping:

  • Cantilever Coping – This is a basic coping that extends the deck of the pool over the edge. It is one of the least expensive copings available and maintenance is almost non-existent.
  • Bullnose Coping – One of the more popular forms of coping, this style can be made of a number of different materials that include concrete, granite, marble, brick and even steel. It contains rounded edges that move towards the water and comes in a large variety of colors.
  • Custom Stone Coping – Homeowners who want their pool to look as unique as possible can have their coping made using custom stone.

Other types of coping include Cantilever Band, Pre-Cast and Receptor coping. For additional information on pool coping, contact Triad Associates.
