Fences are a simple and straightforward method for making an outdoor space more private. However, their presence can seem both harsh and unaccommodating, which is something that can seep over into their surroundings.

Fortunately, you can create privacy in your yard with plants:

  • Bamboo possesses exceptional hardiness plus fast growth, making it perfect for creating privacy. That said, bamboo can grow a bit too fast, meaning that it should be planted in raised beds with root barriers. Something that should make it much easier to keep bamboo under control.
  • If you prefer something softer than bushes and shrubs with which to shield your yard, consider using ornamental grasses. Make sure to choose a tall species that can retain its vertical shape even when it hits heights of six feet or more.
  • Just the presence of plants can make their surroundings seem more welcoming. As a result, hard barriers can be incorporated into outdoor spaces by putting planters on top of their flat surfaces.
  • Likewise, you can get a similar effect by growing a vertical garden either on your walls or mounted on your walls.
